SUMMARY:Interfaith Dialogue: Dying\, Death & Grief - Buddhist Traditions
DESCRIPTION:An Interfaith Dialogue: Dying\, Death & Grief – Exploring the Teachings of Buddhist Traditions\nA Conversation with Venerable Dhammadipa and Rev. Premajyothi Devi\nDeath is a universal human experience\, yet the ways we understand\, prepare for\, and respond to it are deeply influenced by our spiritual beliefs and traditions. \nHow can we approach dying with greater peace and awareness? What happens at the time of death? How can spiritual teachings help us navigate grief\, support those who are dying\, and find meaning in the experience of loss? \nThroughout history\, Buddhist traditions have offered profound insights into the nature of impermanence\, suffering\, attachment\, compassion\, and the continuity of existence. While these teachings share common foundations\, different Buddhist traditions offer distinctive perspectives and practices for understanding and approaching dying\, death\, and grief. \nJoin us for a special Interfaith Dialogue with Venerable Dr. Dhammadipa Sak and Rev. Premajyothi Devi as we explore the richness and diversity of Buddhist teachings on these universal human experiences. \nRather than a formal lecture\, this gathering will be an engaging conversation in which Venerable Dhammadipa shares perspectives from various Buddhist traditions\, drawing upon his extensive knowledge of Buddhist philosophy\, meditation\, and spiritual practice. \nRev. Premajyothi will facilitate the dialogue\, offering reflections on how these teachings may connect with\, complement\, or differ from the teachings of Integral Yoga. \nTogether\, they will explore questions such as: \n\nHow do different Buddhist traditions understand the process of dying and the nature of death?\nWhat role do karma\, rebirth\, and consciousness play in various Buddhist teachings?\nHow can meditation and mindfulness help us prepare for our own death?\nWhat practices are traditionally offered to support someone approaching the end of life?\nHow do Buddhist teachings help us understand and work through grief?\nWhere might Buddhist perspectives and Integral Yoga teachings share common ground\, and where might they differ?\n\nThe intention of this dialogue is not to establish one spiritual approach as superior to another\, but to deepen our understanding and appreciation of the wisdom found within different traditions. \nWhether you are contemplating your own mortality\, supporting someone approaching the end of life\, experiencing grief\, or simply interested in Buddhist philosophy and interfaith understanding\, this conversation offers an opportunity for learning\, reflection\, and spiritual enrichment. \nAbout Our Presenters\nVenerable Dr. Dhammadipa Sak \nVenerable Dhammadipa is a respected Buddhist monk\, scholar\, and meditation teacher with extensive knowledge of both Theravāda and Mahāyāna Buddhist traditions. \nOrdained in Sri Lanka in 1987\, he holds advanced degrees in Buddhist philosophy\, including a Ph.D. from the University of Bristol. He has taught internationally\, led meditation retreats\, and served in leadership positions at several Buddhist monasteries and meditation centers. \nHe currently serves as Abbot and President of the Amata Vihāra and Zen Center in Maryland and as Vice President of the Buddhist Association of the United States. His work emphasizes Buddhist scholarship\, meditation practice\, and interfaith understanding. \nRev. Premajyothi Devi \nRev. Premajyothi Devi is an Integral Yoga Minister and Coordinator of the Integral Yoga Institute of New Jersey. \nA longtime Integral Yoga teacher and spiritual counselor\, she previously served for seven years as a hospice bereavement counselor. Her experience accompanying individuals and families through dying\, death\, and grief informs her compassionate approach to these subjects. \nThrough her teaching\, ministry\, and interfaith work\, she seeks to encourage greater understanding of spiritual traditions and the practical application of spiritual wisdom in everyday life. \nAll Are Welcome\nNo previous knowledge of Buddhism or Integral Yoga is necessary. \nWe invite you to join us with an open heart\, a curious mind\, and a willingness to explore how spiritual teachings can help us approach life’s most profound transitions with greater awareness\, compassion\, and peace. \nSaturday\, November 7\, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET\nOnline via Zoom | Registration: $10 – $35

SUMMARY:Grief Begins Before Goodbye: Understanding Loss\, Love\, and Healing
DESCRIPTION:A Supportive Conversation with Rev. Premajyothi Devi\, Bereavement Counselor\nGrief does not begin at the moment of death. \nOften\, it begins long before — when illness progresses\, when memory fades\, when roles shift\, or when we quietly sense that change is coming. \nAnd grief does not end with the funeral. \nIn this compassionate and steady conversation\, Rev. Premajyothi Devi\, Bereavement Counselor\, explores the full emotional arc of grief — before loss\, during loss\, and after loss. This session offers understanding\, normalization\, and gentle guidance for navigating one of life’s most profound human experiences. \nThis is not a clinical lecture. \nIt is a safe and supportive space for reflection\, education\, and shared humanity. \nAnticipatory Grief\n\nGrieving while a loved one is still alive\nThe emotional strain of caregiving\nAlzheimer’s\, dementia\, and gradual loss\nLoving while slowly letting go\nThe quiet sorrow of “losing someone in stages”\n\nAnticipatory grief is real — and often unspoken. Naming it reduces isolation. \nAfter Death: The Continuing Journey\n\nThe waves and unpredictability of post-death grief\nCaregiver guilt\nSurvivor’s guilt\n“Did I do enough?” and other common questions\nWhat is normal — and when additional support may help\n\nGrief does not follow a straight line. Understanding this can ease self-judgment and unnecessary fear. \nHealthy Grieving Practices\n\nAllowing emotions without suppressing or dramatizing them\nThe role of ritual and remembrance\nCommunity support and shared storytelling\nIntegrating loss without losing love\nContinuing bonds in a healthy way\n\nGrief is not something to “get over.” \nIt is something to move through — with compassion. \nA Gentle Reminder\n\nGrief is love continuing in a new form.\nWhen grief is understood\, it softens.\nWhen feelings are welcomed\, resilience grows.\nWhen we are supported\, healing unfolds naturally.\nAll feelings are welcome.\nYou are not alone.\n\nAbout the Full Series of End-of-Life Preparation\nDeath is a natural part of life — yet most of us feel unprepared to face it\, whether for ourselves or for someone we love. \nThe End-of-Life Preparation Series is a thoughtfully designed journey offering practical guidance\, emotional resilience\, relational clarity\, and spiritual reflection. Through expert conversations\, compassionate dialogue\, and structured preparation\, participants are supported in replacing fear with understanding and uncertainty with steadiness. \nThis is not a morbid series. It is a life-affirming one. \nWhen we prepare thoughtfully:\n\nAnxiety decreases\nFamilies communicate more clearly\nDecisions become less reactive\nLove becomes more fully expressed\n\nWho Is This Series For?\n\nIndividuals preparing for their own future with intention\nCaregivers supporting aging or ill loved ones\nMinisters and spiritual companions\nFamilies wishing to reduce confusion and conflict\nAnyone seeking peace of mind around life’s final chapter\n\nNo crisis is required to begin preparing. \nIn fact\, preparation is most powerful before crisis arises \nOur Intention\nThis series is offered in a spirit of compassion\, education\, and empowerment. \n\nWe do not rush decisions.\nWe do not create urgency.\nWe create clarity.\nBy facing what is inevitable with openness and wisdom\, we often discover something unexpected:\nWe begin to live more fully now.\nPreparation lightens the heart.\nClarity steadies the mind.\nLove continues — before\, during\, and beyond death.
