SWAMI SATCHIDANANDA

ABOUT SWAMI SATCHIDANANDA

Swami Satchidananda (Sri Gurudev) was born on December 22, 1914 in South India. In
1949, he met his Guru—His Holiness Sri Swami Sivanandaji of the Divine Life Society,
Rishikesh. He received his initiation into Sannyas (monkhood), from his spiritual master
and was given the name Swami Satchidananda.

History of Integral Yoga Fair Lawn NJ

The first New Jersey Institute began in 1969 when a couple from Montclair asked the
New York IYI for help in opening a yoga center. The classes were held in their home and
their first teacher was Margabandhu Martarano. That same year, Eddie Brigati of The
Rascals, opened his apartment for yoga classes and kirtan and the numbers of students
grew!! In 1970 the location was moved to a loft in Garfield, which also included a
thriving food co-op. By this time, there were now twenty-one teachers and thirteen
classes held weekly.

Volunteers

Volunteers

Swami Satchidananda envisioned and advised that Integral Yoga Institutes be run by volunteers. Volunteers are the life blood of our organization as well as a sure step toward Self-Realization. Karma Yoga, selfless service, cleans the ego of expectations and ownership, allowing the volunteer to feel free to be who they truly are.

What is the goal of Integral Yoga?

The Goal of Integral Yoga

The Goal of Integral Yoga, and the birthright of every individual, is to realize the spiritual unity behind all the diversity in the entire creation and to live harmoniously as members of one universal family.
This goal is achieved by returning to our natural condition of:
• A Body of perfect health and strength
• A Mind with all clarity, calmness, and control
